UMBRO LAUNCHES ICONS RE-ISSUE

SS12 COLLECTION

Umbro is celebrating 88 years of stylish sportswear with a four piece collection that pays homage to its unique football tailoring heritage. Icons Re-issue is a tribute to the classic silhouettes which have embodied Umbro’s reputation for crafting smart football garments.

For Spring Summer 2012, Umbro has reimaged four iconic pieces which pay tribute to its founder, Harold Humphreys’ vision of tailored sportswear.

Icons Re-issue is based on four of Umbro’s most celebrated silhouettes: the ’66 Anthem Jacket, the Mexico ’70 Jersey, the Taped Track Jacket and Drill Top. Each piece, a stitch by stitch recreation of the original, takes you on a journey through Umbro’s incredible history with the most modern refinement. A truly football smart collection.

Featured in the collection is the Umbro ‘66 Anthem Jacket. Forever associated with England’s finest victory and worn by one of England’s all-time greats, Sir Alf Ramsey. The iconic jacket features a 100% stonewash cotton twill fabric and all the unique details remain; red, white and blue rib stripes on the hem, cuff and collar as well as the embroidered Three Lions crest which sits proudly on the chest. On the back is ‘England’ appliqué lettering applied with accurate zigzag stitching. In essence- a true football classic.

The Mexico ‘70 Jersey made its debut in what is widely regarded as the greatest ever World Cup Finals and the first to be broadcast in colour. Designed to allow players to play in extreme heat, the jersey took its place in football history when England took on Brazil in the quarter finals in Guadalajara. Immaculately reproduced, the Mexico ’70 Jersey is 100% cotton mesh, with a classic crew neck collar, crafted from the same fabric as the original.

The Taped Track Jacket signalled a movement into a new era of sports branded clothing, proudly led by Umbro. True to the original, the jacket features the famous ‘running diamond’ taping down the sleeves and the faded Umbro logo on the chest. The classic Umbro taping hit the fashion spotlight in the 1970s, when England’s finest wore the Taped Track Jacket. The running diamond detail was well and truly placed on the football map following Scotland’s Archie Gemmill wonder goal against Holland in the 1978 World Cup.

The classic Drill Top, one of the most loved pieces of football apparel, completes the Icons Re-Issue collection. The Umbro Drill Top has been reinterpreted many times over the years and worn by icons both off and on the pitch. This version is a recreation of a style seen in the late 80s and early 90s and the inspiration for Umbro’s New Blue collection. Made from 100% washed cotton twill, the Drill Top has a unique ability to get better with age, wash after wash.

Loyally reinterpreted and staying true to the tailoring aesthetics established by Harold Humphreys, the Umbro Icons Re-Issue collection is available from www.umbro.com . Each piece is beautifully presented in a premium boot bag.
